" NEW ITEM !!!" Sterling Silver "Round Island Light" Earrings
As a native Michigan boy, and a Great Lakes sailor, I have a thing about Lighthouses. This one holds a special place in my heart as its one of the marks for the finish line in the Mac regattas. The Round Island Light also known as the "Old Round Island Point Lighthouse” is a lighthouse located on the west shore of Round Island in the shipping lanes of the Straits of Mackinac.
First lit in 1895, and up until 1947, it was manned by a single keeper. Once abandoned, the lighthouse fell prey to thieves and vandals. A major storm in 1972 caused a corner of the lighthouse structure to collapse and was nearly its demise. But after years of hard work the Lighthouse was re-lit in 1996 and is currently a Michigan Historic Registered Site. No. L0107.
